Pat Baeske was born and raised in the area. She married Mel, a career Air Force serviceman, and for 14 years traveled and lived all over the country and in Japan, where she attended a number of colleges as she combined her professional career with raising a family. She and Mel have 2 children and 6 grandchildren, all living close by.

Mel and Pat returned to this area to live in Fairview Heights in 1974 when he retired from the Air Force to begin a "civilian" career.

Pat is a court reporter by profession over a four-decade period. She was a partner in a court reporting firm and an official court reporter with the U.S. (federal) District Court. Over the years she has been very active in the national and state court reporting associations, giving seminars and serving as president of the National Verbatim Reporters Association in the 80's and again in the 90's, plus she has been active in a number of professional and local community-service organizations.

She became interested in city government when the city attempted to put a cell tower on city property close to her home. As a result she began attending most of the city council and committee meetings for a 6-year period, during which she was appointed to several city resident-commissions.

Her involvement subsequently resulted in her election as an alderman in 1999 and she continues to serve in that capacity, representing and assisting the city's residents and serving on the city's committees and council.
